Description

My first drawn pregnant horse. xD I don't think I made her preggers enough, but eh. Next image will feature Dia's best friend, Doxi~

With this image and story, Dia is now dedicated! Once that's been confirmed, Douleia and Arete will get +1 veratis points. Yay~

It had been months since Prophodia's decision and as a testament to her committal, her belly had grown taunt and round. Inside she was overwhelmed with a mixture of pride and fear at what she'd done, what new path she had taken. Her feelings had turned from focusing on bitterness towards the gods to closer to home pursuits, the inner push to find her friends before giving birth becoming stronger with every day. While she barely mentioned the foal, her new mate was acting like a rather proud papa in her presence. Nekros was always nuzzling her abdomen and commenting on how 'he' would be as big and strong as his father, as handsome as her mother. Although the mare would smile and nuzzle him in return, she had trepidations.

Would she be a good mother? Although she'd been a mature age for quite some time, both on earth and back at Olympus, she'd never had a lover, or a foal. She'd never even spent much time around the younger Cavitto's, more focused on climbing the ladder of her mistress’s pyramid of mares and stallions for favour and assignments. Dia wasn't entirely certain that she'd even know what to do with the foal to be honest. Make sure it had food and safety obviously, but other than that... what do you do with a foal?

She couldn't ask Nekros. The stallion was much younger than she and this was his first foal as well. Besides the fact that mares were supposed to know what they were doing. She needed to find her friends, have their guidance in this.

So instead of sharing her fears, the mare brooded inwardly, her worry growing along with her belly as they travelled.

------------

The pair was at the base of the Alps when her first pains began to hit. Dia remained silent for the first few hours, but her pace slowed considerably and there were times when she stopped completely to rest, alerting her travelling companion that something was wrong.  He waited until she stopped once again near a stream before hesitantly bringing up the subject, his usual ego and bluster gone in the light of his child's safety.

“Is everything alright?” The dark stallion asked, dropping his head slightly and touching the roan mare’s shoulder with his roman nose, ears perked and looking for some sign. When Prophodia didn’t answer right away, Nekros grew worried.

“Dia, what’s wrong? Is it the baby?” The male questioned, stepping up to look her in the eye. His worry grew as she avoided his eyes and brushed by him again. “Prophodia…”

“I am fine Nekros.” She snapped slightly, a contraction settling. “Let’s continue moving. We still have time before nightfall to go further. We’re close now… I can feel their presence.” Flicking her tail in his face when the stallion attempted to protest, she continued on, going from a sedate walk to an ambling trot. She had to hurry. Her time had come and the scents of her friends were on the wind. She could find them before her foal entered the world. She would find them.

Trailing along close behind, the dark stallion muttered to himself, reaching out to try to find his master. He would know what to do in this situation. Perhaps Hades would be able to give him the words to convince Dia to stop and rest.  However, the harder he tried to reach Hades, the less connection he felt. It was like they had entered a dead zone, something the stallion had not thought possible. Hades could reach anywhere he wanted. What was keeping him from reaching his master here?

Nekros was taken from his inner musings when he almost stumbled over his mate’s body. At her snappy reprimand, the silver quickly stumbled back a few feet to survey the problem. And then promptly began to panic when he spotted the beginnings of a baby peeking out beneath her tail.

“Dia, Dia, the baby is coming!”

“I know that you fool!” She growled, pushing herself into a half upright position. “You need to help me, we’re not there yet.”

Blinking, the stallion stared at her as the roan attempted to push herself up, finally rousing and using his large head, pushing her shoulders back down. “No… you can’t Dia… The baby is coming now. You’ll hurt him if you try to keep going.” He reasoned, urging her to lay down.

“We’re not there yet…” Came the protest, interrupted by yet another contraction. With a groan, the mare stiffened and a nose peeked out. “We have to find them… They’re here somewhere…”

“We will.” He promised, anything to keep her down. His son was coming. “But first you need to finish this Dia. Our son is coming now.” The stallion pushed her back once again as she attempted to get up and remained standing over her throughout the rest of her contractions.

Finally, a small colt lay on the ground and Nekros backed off slightly, circling about to see his small son. The stallion only got a moment with him however, as Prophodia’s instincts came forefront. The mare gave a warning snort and flattened her ears at him, driving the silver out of her space with a few well -placed nips before turning her attentions to her child. She nuzzled the roan colt before beginning to clean him, her need to continue on still strong, but her mothering instinct was yet stronger, demanding the mare to care for her small son.

A time to continue on would come later. Right now, this one needed what little she knew of child care. With any luck, she’d keep him alive through the night.
